When Café Saint-Ex opened in 2003, the inspiration for the venue was founded on the owner’s affection for Europe and aviation. Owner Mike Benson grew up on the works of the author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and flying with his father (who is still flying). After living in France as a photographer and frequenting the cafe culture, he incorporated some of the most admirable qualities of other intercontinental bistros into Saint-Ex. The bar is vintage pre prohibition Art Deco and the large propeller on the wall came off of Mike's grandfathers WWI biplane (he had it shipped home after its last flight of the war in 1918, it then passed to Mike's father and now to the restaurant). The exceptional food, quality beer offerings, and laid back atmosphere have made Saint-Ex a popular local gathering spot. Our longstanding commitment to our neighborhood has given us many opportunities to work with local communities, schools, and the arts. In addition, our dedication to fresh produce, and non-industrialized farming supports our local farmer’s market and farms.
